Developed as a strategic concept presentation for legendary footwear innovator
Steve Smith following the formation of Crocs’ Innovation division, this deck explored new product territory through the lens of DWN RVR’s performance-driven aesthetic and cultural references.

A cohesive product study structured around one central design proposition - reinterpreting the traditional Tabi silhouette through Crocs’ molded footwear technology.
Originating in China and later refined in Japan, the split-toe Tabi evolved in the late 16th century to accommodate thonged footwear such as geta and zori, and to provide grounded stability — including for samurai warriors. The silhouette represents balance, discipline, and functional adaptation.
The proposal introduced a Crocs Tabi as the conceptual anchor — merging outdoor utility, Japanese influence, and molded performance innovation into a sophisticated, future-facing form.

The collection was structured across three strategic retail tiers, ensuring cohesion across distribution channels while respecting consumer segmentation:
Tier I — Luxury / Concept Retail
Designed for directional partners such as Dover Street Market and Beams Japan — elevated executions, premium materials, and restrained detailing.
Tier II — Contemporary Premium
Positioned for retailers including Saks Fifth Avenue and Liberty London — balancing refinement with accessibility.
Tier III — Broad Market
Scaled for distribution through Bloomingdale's and Macy's — expressive interpretations maintaining the core concept while expanding commercial reach.

The deck begins with three elevated executions of the Crocs Tabi — refined, minimal, and aligned with Crocs’ luxury collaboration tier.
From this foundation, the concept expands into four additional variations under the umbrella of Samurai Edition — translating the original design language into progressively broader consumer expressions.
The system maintains design integrity while evolving in tone: from high-end architectural minimalism to expressive, culturally playful iterations aligned with Crocs’ mass-market collaborations.

The Crocs Samurai Edition demonstrates how a single, culturally rooted idea can scale across demographic and price architecture without diluting its integrity.
By anchoring the collection in one strong silhouette — the Tabi — and expanding through disciplined variation, the concept reflects a systems-based approach to innovation: cohesive, adaptable, and commercially viable.

Developed as a collaborative concept between DWN RVR and Crocs, this proposal explored the structural and aesthetic potential of EVA foam as the foundation of the silhouette.
Lightweight, waterproof, shock-absorbent, and highly durable, EVA’s closed-cell structure allows for sculptural flexibility while maintaining strength and outdoor resilience — aligning performance innovation with DWN RVR’s utilitarian design language.
