Creative Partner & Studio Lead, 2023–Present

DWN RVR {Down River}

Since its inception in early 2023, the studio has guided DWN RVR alongside its founders, shaping the brand’s identity from concept through branding, packaging, and product development

Brand Concept

Rooted in hunting culture and outdoor functionality, DWN RVR is built on a deep respect for nature and utility. The brand translates performance-driven thinking into a refined, contemporary design language across apparel, footwear, and accessories — balancing technical integrity with cultural relevance.

Grounded in durability, adaptability, and purpose, the aesthetic draws from heritage outdoor systems while embracing modern fabrication and forward-thinking construction.

Studio Role & Industry Context

Developed in collaboration with co-founders Rocco Nugent and legendary footwear innovator Steve Smith, the studio has been embedded in the brand’s evolution from the ground floor — contributing strategic direction, product concepting, visual identity systems, and category expansion from day one.

Overall Branding Direction

The foundational visual language draws from the structural clarity of the Bauhaus movement and the raw material honesty of Brutalism.

Chosen for their shared philosophy of “form follows function,” these references establish a disciplined, utilitarian framework — aligning the brand’s outdoor ethos with architectural restraint.

Typography & Communication System

The typographic system is intentionally minimal, balancing strength with restraint.

Carefully paired typefaces create hierarchy and clarity while reinforcing the brand’s architectural foundation — ensuring consistency across product, packaging, and communication.

Logo Exploration & Visual Research

Logo development began with extensive visual research, analyzing marks from heritage and performance-driven brands alongside original DWN RVR concept studies.

This phase explored balance, durability, and symbolic simplicity — refining a mark that feels both timeless and adaptable.

Final Logo System

The finalized logo system distills the earlier explorations into a confident, modular identity.

Designed for scalability across categories, the marks function seamlessly across apparel, footwear, accessories, and digital applications — reinforcing cohesion without overstatement.

Product Application

Branding is applied with intention — through patches, embroidery, interior labels, and structural placement that enhances rather than dominates the product.

Each application reinforces durability and authenticity, ensuring the identity integrates organically into the garment and accessory construction.

Branded Packaging

Packaging extends the architectural language into tactile form — balancing durability with refined minimalism.

From footwear boxes to garment bags and product containers, each element reinforces the brand’s utilitarian ethos while elevating the unboxing experience.

Foundational Quote Integration

The packaging incorporates a guiding quote from Fred Bear, a pioneer of modern bow hunting and a conceptual influence for the founders.

His philosophy of immersion, respect for nature, and personal discipline anchors the brand’s deeper narrative — grounding contemporary design in timeless outdoor values.
